Birds
“Our garden
is populated with the unfortunately named yellow-vented bulbul (the locals call
them cerucuk which I prefer) and loads of swallows, swifts or
swiftlets of some sort. We also see bee-eaters, red-chested flower-pecker,
pretty little sunbirds, a pair of pied trillers, oriental white eyes,
occasional cuckoos, finches, kingfishers (two varieties at least), maybe a
woodpecker, and I believe there is an owl up behind Studio One. Have seen it
once or twice and recent guests heard it at night. Overhead we get Brahmini
kites and white bellied sea eagles and, over the ocean in the distance, frigate
birds.” Personal
communication Mark Heyward, The Studio, The Hill, Batu Layar, Lombok.
During our
stay Nov.2012 to April 2013, we observed most of the above except the cuckoos, (but see Coucal comment below ) and
the woodpecker.
